Product Description
The Swiss Helvetia 20 Franc or "Vreneli" as it is referred to in Europe, was minted at the Swiss National Mint in Bern between 1897 and 1935 and additionally in 1947 and 1949. The obverse was designed by Fritz Landry and features a bust of Vreneli against a background of the Swiss Alps. The reverse features the traditional coat of arms of Switzerland with the famous Swiss Cross and the wreath of the republic. The name Helvetia dates back to Roman times, as when the Roman Empire extended northward into Gaul, the Helviti were the dominant tribe in that area and so the area which is now Switzerland became known to the Romans as Helvetia. Various years are available and the individual coins are delivered in our protective plastic flips.
